Fly farther on less fuel and with lower emissions on Bombardier's new Global Business jets.

By Chris Moore

Bombardier, a company long known for the superiority of its aircraft, is introducing updated models to its Global line of large business jets. The Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft will see service beginning in early 2016 and 2017, respectively. Both aircraft will offer incomparable comfort and range, the largest cabin capacity, and farthest non-stop traveling distance in their class. The jets are designed for ultra long-range performance and boast the newest generation of GE engines, which provide high efficiency and low fuel-burn between cities as distant as New York and Mumbai or LA and Sydney. Couple the efficiency and range of the models with the technological innovation and standards of elegance found on all Bombardier business jets, and one is viewing the most advanced aircraft around the globe.

As the world grows smaller and emerging markets become more and more important, it is essential for business people to have access to aircraft that can quickly reach as far as their businesses. With this in mind, Bombardier has increased the non-stop global reach capability of their jets. The larger of these jets, the Global 7000 aircraft, will have a range of 7,300 nautical miles, a maximum cruising speed of mach 0.85 and a high speed of mach 0.90. The Global 7000 will also have the ability to carry up to ten passengers with a crew of four.

Though slightly smaller, the Bombardier Global 8000 will carry eight passengers, but the sacrifice of size and weight with the 8000 line happily translates into an increase in the aircraft's maximum distance. The 8000 aircraft will have the ability to travel nearly 8000 nm without need of stopping, and at roughly the same speeds as the slightly larger 7000.

Both jets boast state-of-the-art technological advancements. The Global Vision flight deck accords the crew an unmatched cabin-maintenance system with the highest level of connectivity and integration of cockpit to cabin. In addition to providing control and comfort unmatched in the industry, the system also offers advanced synthetic visioning that is at the cutting edge of aviation technology. Notably, both aircraft feature the new high-speed transonic wing. The wing, designed to be both lighter and thinner than comparable wings of this class, helps to increase the aircraft's fuel efficiency overall.

Bombardier has not only designed their new aircraft with both comfort and long distance in mind, but also with an eye toward productivity and responsibility. Both aircraft will be equipped with the latest GE engines, which, when coupled with the new transonic wing design, will reduce fuel consumption by some 8%, compared to the current industry-leading Bombardier Global Express XRS. The power plant will also lower harmful NOx emissions to 50% below the upcoming Civil Aircraft Emissions Protocol.

With increased cabin space, outstanding range, peerless fuel efficiency and emissions reduction, the new Global line of Bombardier aircraft shows that it really is possible to have one's cake and eat it too.
